How do I become a member?

Why Church Membership?

Are you considering becoming a member of Goodrich?  Why should you even consider formal membership when you already feel so at home with the people and the life of this congregation?

  •  It's more than just putting your name on a membership roll.
  • Church membership involves making a covenant to be faithful to your church with your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness.
  • Church membership makes you a part of a group of people who have made the same covenant to live out their faith among the people called Goodrich.
  • Church membership allows you to receive the gifts of covenant care just as you have covenanted to be faithful to them.
  • Church membership gives you opportunities to fill specific leadership rolls in the life of the congregation.

How Do I Become a Member of Goodrich?

First, make an appointment to speak with the pastor about your intentions.  You can call the church office, (405) 321-0975, or you can send a private email to

Second, come forward during the final hymn of any service to indicate your desire to become a member.  In a brief service of introduction, the pastor will announce your intentions and you will indicate your willingness to join the people called Goodrich.  You don't have to make any speeches--you simply take membership vows and the cogregation makes a vow to renew their commitment to Christ and their own membership vows.

Who Can Become a Member of Goodrich?

Anyone who takes baptismal vows may join Goodrich.  We do not re-baptize anyone who has been baptized by a Christian church.

  • Profession of faith:  We receive as members persons who are ready to or have professed their faith in Christ.  If they have not been previously baptized, the person would consent to baptism and baptismal vows.
  • Transfer from another United Methodist church.  We receive as members persons who are transferring from another United Methodist church.
  • Transfer from another denomination:  We receive as members transferring from other Christian denominations.
  • Affiliate membership:  We receive as members persons from other United Methodist congregations yet are living away from home for an extended period of time.  Affialted members have most of the same rights and privileges of full membership.  Affiliate membership shall cease when the member moves from the communiity or requests to be discontinued as an affiliate member.
  • Associate membership:  We receive persons as members from other Christian denominations who share living circumstances similar to affiliate members.  Asssociate members do have restrictions which do not apply to affiliate members.  Associate membership shall cease when the member moves from the community or requests to be discontinued as an affiliate member.
